Chicago!
Hey everyone! We've been in Chicago for 3 days and it has certainly been very windy!
We arrived safely in Chicago on Wednesday night and Lee picked us up from the airport. We just came home and had something to eat. We went to bed fairly early that night....it had been way over 24 hrs since we got up!
We spent Thursday just at home (at Nick's parents place - Kirby's in-laws). We chilled out, watched a lil telly, played a few games of Sequence, John beat me 4-3.....but it was oh so close!! We went for a walk with Sue when she got home. It was really nice to see the neighbourhood and get a bit of fresh air and sunlight after so much aeroplane air!!
On Friday, we caught the train into the city of Chicago, it took just over an hour. We walked through downtown. We missed out on the Sears Tower, now called Wallis tower, as it was closed because it was so windy! Darn it! John was quite happy with that. We checked out a model of Chicago city, walked to Lake Michigan, checked out Millenium Park, saw the Cloud Gate (The Bean), walked the Magnificent Mile, had some lunch and then caught a train back. We stopped at the John Hancock Building, but didn't go up that one either, cos we didn't have enough time before our train - John strikes it lucky AGAIN!
Saturday morning, John, Nick and Lee went to do a 5km run. They left at 7, Sue and I left at 7:10 to pick Kirby up from the aiport :) It was worth getting up early for!
We all went to the Cubs game at Wrigley Stadium at noon. John and I bought cheap caps beforehand, and we borrowed some shirts. It was fun to watch and even better cos they won! Beat Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-5, Go, Cubs, Go!!
We watched the Kentucky Derby (equivalent to Melb Cup) in the arvo and then went out for tea at Smoke Daddy, a BBQ restaurant. Mmmm mmm!
Today, Sunday, we went to 8am church with Nick and his parents, and then we went to Six Flags Great America! It's like Dreamworld, but bigger and better! It was the perfect day to go, cos it wasn't too hot and there weren't heaps of people. We didn't have to wait long for rides, maybe 1/2 an hour at the most, just once :) John was very brave and went on a couple! Although, I must say, it was very amusing to watch John watching some of the rollercoasters!!! Kirby and I ended our Six Flags Great America experience with a front row ride on the Superman coaster!! WOO HOO!!!!!!!
We caught up with a friend, Sarah, at an IHOP (a 24-hour restaurant) for tea. That was fun, very glad to have seen here!! And, tipping.....sheesh....tricky business!!!
Wow, what a day! What a start to our holiday, God is certainly looking after us! Our first 'home' here in the states has been great; such generous, lovely people!
I'll give you another update when I get a chance, tomorrow we head off on our road trip!
